Dr. Scott Lyons will be teaching during Wisdom and Wellbeing Multi-Faculty Week 7: Stress & Trauma – Repair, Rewire, Rebalance | February 14 – 21, 2026 about the following topic:
Remapping the Embodied Self After Trauma
In this immersive series, we’ll explore somatic approaches to trauma healing – from restoring internal safety and embodiment to renegotiating developmental wounds. Through guided movement, breathwork, and nervous system regulation, including somatic EMDR, we’ll reconnect with the body’s innate intelligence, reclaim vitality, and deepen our capacity for presence, relationship, and self-trust. A grounded, experiential journey into embodied recovery and resilience.
1. Remapping the Embodied Self After Trauma (Part I)
Trauma disconnects us—from our bodies, our instincts, and our sense of self. In this immersive somatic practice session, we’ll explore gentle, body-based techniques to restore internal safety and reestablish connection with the innate intelligence of the nervous system. Through guided movement, breathwork, and somatic inquiry, we begin the process of remapping our internal landscape—one rooted in presence, capacity, and self-trust.
2. Remapping the Embodied Self After Trauma (Part II)
Building on the foundations of internal safety and reconnection, this session deepens the process of embodiment post-trauma. We’ll explore relational repair, expressive somatic movement, and nervous system regulation practices designed to rewire patterns of freeze, collapse, or over-adaptation. This is a space for reclaiming vitality and reinhabiting the body as a source of wisdom, power, and belonging.
3. Healing Developmental Trauma Through Somatics
Developmental trauma is often invisible—but its imprints shape how we attach, adapt, and survive. This session offers a compassionate and embodied approach to healing early relational wounds. Using somatic practices grounded in attachment theory and nervous system regulation, we create space to gently renegotiate core patterns of disconnection, re-pattern the body for safety in relationship, and restore our capacity for intimacy, self-expression, and aliveness.
4. Somatic EMDR & the Science of Bilateral Stimulation
Explore a cutting-edge, body-informed approach to EMDR that integrates somatic awareness with the neuroscience of trauma healing. In this experiential session, we’ll unpack the role of bilateral stimulation in memory reconsolidation and nervous system regulation, and engage in practices that pair movement, rhythm, and mindful awareness to process unresolved trauma. Participants will gain insight into the science—and feel the embodied impact—of this powerful integrative method.
